Author's Notes: This is my first bit of Mutant X slash, and I've only been watching the show for a few weeks, so any helpful hints would be nice. Praise also works well. This was typed straight to my e-mail, so all mistakes are mine.

Brennan was sweaty. He hated being sweaty. He also hated using his powers when he was sweaty. It made him wonder if somewhere on him that he hadn't seen there was a tag that read "Do not use near water" with the big red X over an outline of himself.
When Adam told him to fry the systems to stop KiloHertz, he had paused for a half-second, wondering if he'd be fried by his power. Then he'd charged up and fired, and nothing happened, like usual.
But he still wondered. He wondered a lot.
He wondered when keeping anyone but himself safe became such a priority. It never used to matter. And he wondered when he started looking out for Jesse a little more than the others. He also kind of wondered when he started to get hard anytime Jesse threw him a quick grin in the middle of a workout.
The first one he didn't know, and wasn't overly concerned about. If he was looking out for people, so be it. The second one he put down to the first time he saw the light in Jesse's eyes of an innocence Brennan was pretty sure he didn't remember. He wanted to keep Jesse safe from the big bad things of the world he didn't have to deal with. Like death and destruction and everything else that wasn't Eckhart. Brennan had chalked it up to being a good friend and maybe having a bit of a big brother complex for Jesse.
Then, the third one jumped up and bit him when he wasn't looking, and he didn't know what to make of that. So, he wondered why being so close to Jesse would be something his body would interpret as a horny-inducing thing. He wasn't really sure.
Until Jesse found him after he'd fried the computers on Adam's orders and gotten very far into his personal space and kissed him just once, but very thoroughly on the lips. Then Brennan knew why his body did what it did. He knew why he protected Jesse. Because somewhere, his body knew Jesse could kiss in a way that Brennan was pretty sure parts of him would melt off and other parts would never soften. His body knew that Jesse could just barely touch him, and it'd be
enough to make every nerve-ending scream.
So Brennan stopped wondering. The first one he wasn't overly concerned about; the second and third, he had the answer to.
But every now and then he still wondered if he could electrocute himself when he was sweaty and using his powers.
